This guide explains how to use Insights in Trendspek. Insights allows you to move beyond individual asset reporting by rolling up annotation data into portfolio-wide dashboards. By combining Insights with well-designed templates and structured annotation data, users can create powerful, custom dashboards to track risk, severity, trends, and more across their entire portfolio.

What Is Insights?

Traditionally in Trendspek, reports were generated per asset by navigating to an individual asset and creating a report from its reporting page.

Insights changes this approach by aggregating annotation data across multiple assets, allowing you to:

  • View trends across an entire portfolio

  • Generate portfolio-level dashboards

  • Analyse risk, severity, and inspection data in one place

This provides better visibility and supports data-driven decision-making at scale.

Accessing Insights

Once Insights is enabled for your company:

  1. Navigate to Insights from the main menu.

  2. By default, you will see the Default Dashboard.

The default dashboard contains basic metrics and serves as a starting point. To unlock the full value of Insights, you’ll need to use templates and create custom dashboards.

Why Templates Are Important for Insights

Insights works best when annotations are created using high-quality templates that capture structured data.

Templates allow you to record consistent fields such as:

  • Defect overview

  • Date of inspection

  • Structural element (e.g. slab, beam, column, wall)

  • Inspection method

  • Inspector

  • Defect type

  • Exposure conditions

  • Severity

  • Risk rating

This structured data enables Insights to visualise information accurately across dashboards.

Viewing and Using Templates

  1. Navigate to Templates.

    2. Select a template used within your portfolio.

Well-designed templates with meaningful fields pair extremely well with Insights, allowing you to filter, group, and analyse data across assets.

Using Dashboards in Insights

Viewing a Dashboard

  1. In Insights, select a dashboard (e.g. Default Dashboard).

    2. Click View to load the dashboard.

Dashboards can contain multiple widgets such as:

  • Immediate actions required

  • Average risk score

  • High-risk assets

  • High-risk defects over time

  • Severity distribution

Filtering Dashboards

Dashboards are fully filterable. You can filter by:

  • Inspection date

  • Asset (e.g. a specific warehouse)

  • Severity or risk rating

  • Any relevant template field

Filters apply across the dashboard, updating all connected widgets automatically.

Creating and Editing a Custom Dashboard

Editing a Dashboard

  1. Open a dashboard in Insights.

    2. Click Edit.

    3. Remove any existing widget if required.

Adding a New Visualisation

  1. Click Add Visualisation.

    2. Select Company Annotations as the data source.

    3. Name your visualisation.

    4. Enable Connect to existing dashboard filters so it responds to dashboard filters.

Configuring the Chart

  1. Select a chart type (e.g. Stacked Bar Chart).

    2. Set the Label (e.g. Asset Name).

    3. Set the Value using Annotation Unique ID to count the number of annotations per asset.

    4. Add a Category.

    5. Adjust sorting or ordering as needed.

Once configured, click the ✔️ icon to add the widget to the dashboard.

Saving the Dashboard

  1. Click Save to apply your changes.

Your new visualisation will now appear on the dashboard and respond to filters.

Exploring Visualisation Options

Insights supports 50+ chart types, allowing you to:

  • Track trends over time

  • Compare assets

  • Group data by severity, risk, or defect type

  • Sum numeric values (e.g. cost estimates or quantities)

The flexibility of chart types and template-based data makes Insights highly customisable for different use cases.

Key Takeaways

  • Insights enables portfolio-wide reporting across assets

  • High-quality templates unlock the full power of Insights

  • Dashboards are fully customisable and filterable

  • Users can easily build and modify dashboards without technical expertise

This feature significantly expands reporting and analysis capabilities within the Trendspek platform.
