This guide walks you through how to use Projects in Trendspek. Projects allow you to share limited, controlled portions of your asset with contractors or external users, without giving full access to the entire asset or every annotation. This helps asset owners collaborate securely and efficiently.

What Are Projects?

Projects let you break an asset into smaller, isolated workspaces that contain:

  • Only selected annotations

  • Only selected datasets

  • A clipped or restricted model view

  • Project-specific instructions

  • Controlled templates for structured information entry

This means external users will only see what you choose to share.

Creating a Project in Trendspek

1. Create a Project Folder

Navigate to the Annotations panel.

Create a new folder for your project.

2. Add Annotations for the Project

Within your project folder, create any annotations that need to be shared.

This will appear inside the contractor’s project view.

3. Limit the Model View Using a Clipping Box

If you only want the contractor to see a specific area of the model. Please refer to this article for reference: (https://support.trendspek.cloud/en/articles/9798554-saved-views):

  1. Click on the Clipping Box tool.

  2. A box will appear on the asset model.

  3. Right-click and drag to reposition or resize the box.

  4. Click Apply when satisfied.

  5. Click Close to finalise.

This restricts the contractor’s model view to only the defined area.
(Temporary clipping boxes can be removed at any time.)

4. Create the Project

Once your folder and clipping are ready:

Right-click the project folder → Create Project

You will be redirected to the project creation panel.

Enter a Project Name

5. Add Users to the Project

Select the users who should have access.
You may also create new users directly from this panel.

Project users will not gain access to the entire asset — only to this specific project.

6. Select Datasets

If your asset contains multiple datasets or layers, select which ones the contractor can view.

This ensures they only see data relevant to their scope.

7. Choose Allowed Templates

Templates define how contractors provide information.

Select which template(s) should be available within this project.
This helps maintain structured and consistent reporting.

8. Add Project Instructions

Provide guidance for the contractor.

Click Create Project to complete setup.

A new folder with a special project icon will appear inside your original folder.

Viewing a Project as an Invited User

When a contractor logs in, the Dashboard will display two tabs:

  • Assets

  • Projects

If they have access only to the project, they will only see the project listed.

Opening the project will show:

  • Only the clipped model

  • Only the annotations included in the project folder

  • Project instructions

  • Any attached files or images

Working Within a Project

Contractors can:

  • View owner-provided annotations

  • Add their own annotations

  • Select from the allowed templates

  • Upload images and files

  • Work entirely within the project without accessing other parts of the asset

How Project Work Syncs Back to the Asset

All annotations created inside a project automatically sync back to the main asset.

They appear neatly inside the project folder, allowing asset owners to review contractor input with full traceability.

Important Note

Projects do not have granular permission settings.
A user either has project access, or they do not.

Individual annotation-level permissions are not currently supported.
